Dera Ismail Khan Wildlife Division Foils Attempt to Smuggle 32 Cranes birds

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department continues to take robust measures to protect wildlife and prevent the illegal trafficking of animals and birds. Acting on the special directives of Conservator Wildlife South, Mr. Niaz Muhammad, a successful operation was carried out by the Wildlife Team under the supervision of DFO Wildlife khan malook khan.
Based on credible intelligence, the team intercepted a passenger bus traveling from Karachi to Bannu on the Indus Highway within the jurisdiction of Police Station Gomal University. During the operation, 32 Eurasian cranes were recovered, 26 alive and 6 dead.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015, and a fine of Rs. 140,000 has been imposed. The recovered birds have been shifted to the Wildlife Park Dera Ismail Khan for proper care.
Chief Conservator of Wildlife, Dr. Mohsin Farooq, commended the performance of the D.I. Khan Wildlife Team and stated that, in line with the provincial government’s vision, the department remains committed to protecting wildlife, preventing smuggling, and promoting public awareness regarding wildlife conservation.
