Provincial Minister for Health, Mr. Khaliq Ur Rehman, chaired an important meeting of Directors, Medical Superintendents (MSs) and Heads of Departments (HoDs) of all major hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review healthcare services and discuss measures for further improvement in the public health sector.
During the meeting, the Health Minister issued clear and firm directions to all concerned heads, stating that officers who fail to perform their duties with commitment and responsibility will be relieved of their positions. He emphasized that public service is a sacred trust and must not be taken for granted. “We are all accountable to the people and it is our collective responsibility to serve them with honesty, dedication and integrity,” he added.
Mr. Khaliq Ur Rehman stated that the Health Department and the Provincial Government are continuously addressing challenges faced by hospitals by providing adequate funds, human resources and essential medical equipment. However, he stressed that without sincerity, dedication and professional ethics, meaningful progress and positive change cannot be achieved.
The Health Minister directed hospital heads to ensure strict transparency and establish strong monitoring mechanisms in their respective institutions so that there remains no room for corruption, negligence or mismanagement. He particularly emphasized that emergency units must be closely supervised and monitored round the clock, especially during night hours, to ensure uninterrupted and quality healthcare services for patients.
Highlighting the importance of professional conduct, the Minister said that the attitude and behavior of doctors and hospital administration play a vital role in patient care. He instructed all officials to ensure polite, respectful and compassionate behavior with patients, visitors and attendants, noting that soft behavior can significantly improve public trust and satisfaction.
Mr. Khaliq Ur Rehman also directed the concerned heads to maintain cleanliness and discipline in their hospitals, stating that a hygienic environment is an essential component of quality healthcare. He described hospital heads as the “eyes and ears” of the Health Department and said that active, vigilant and responsible administration can bring about substantial improvements in service delivery.
The Health Minister assured all participants of full financial, moral and administrative support from the Provincial Government in their efforts to elevate healthcare services to a level of excellence and public admiration. He also appreciated the positive changes and improvements observed in various hospitals since assuming office as Health Minister, while acknowledging that further efforts are required to bridge existing gaps and achieve optimal standards.
