The Labour Department, Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken a significant step towards strengthening institutional governance and enhancing industry linkages by advancing the formation of Institute Management Committees (IMCs) across its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes.
In this regard, a 2 day sensitization workshop was organized under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector Support Programme (TVET SSP). The workshop brought together Principals of Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa institutes to deliberate on the effective formation and operationalization of IMCs. Representatives from the Social Welfare Department and institute heads from the Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) also actively participated in the session, reflecting a strong inter-departmental commitment towards collaborative governance in the TVET sector.
The workshop aimed to build awareness and understanding regarding the IMC framework and its critical role in strengthening institutional oversight, transparency, and performance. Participants were introduced to best practices in IMC formation, governance structures, and the mechanisms required to ensure active industry representation within the committees.
A key focus of the workshop was enhancing collaboration between TVET institutes and industry partners to align training programs with market demands. Through structured dialogue and group discussions, participants explored strategies to improve graduate employability by integrating industry insights into curriculum planning, skills standards, and practical training opportunities.
The session also emphasized the development of a sustainable and practical model for the operationalization of IMCs. Participants discussed clear terms of reference, roles and responsibilities of committee members, performance monitoring frameworks, and mechanisms for ensuring long-term functionality and impact.
By establishing strong, industry-aligned IMCs, the Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa aims to promote demand-driven skills development, strengthen institutional governance, and create sustainable career pathways for trainees across the province. The initiative reflects the department’s commitment to modernizing the TVET ecosystem and ensuring that workers and their families have access to quality technical education and enhanced employment opportunities.
This initiative was implemented with the support of the European Union in Pakistan and German Development Cooperation through the TVET Sector Support Programme (TVET SSP), delivered by GIZ Pakistan. The training was conducted by the Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (I-SAPS), which provided technical expertise and facilitation to ensure a comprehensive and outcome-oriented learning experience.
The Labour Department, Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reaffirmed its commitment to continuing reforms in the TVET sector and fostering strong partnerships with development partners and industry stakeholders to drive inclusive economic growth and workforce development in the province.
