Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour Faisal Khan Tarakai chaired an important meeting of the Labour Department to review the performance of affiliated institutions and discuss future plans aimed at improving the welfare of the province’s working class.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Labour Department Captain (Retd.) Mian Adil Iqbal, Secretary Workers Welfare Board (WWB) Sher Alam, Director Labour, and other senior officials of the department.
During the meeting, participants received detailed briefings on initiatives related to social protection, healthcare, housing, and quality education for the children of labourers. The Workers Welfare Board presented updates on ongoing housing schemes, financial assistance, and educational scholarships for workers and their families. Similarly, the Employees’ Social Security Institution (ESSI) shared details of its medical services and insurance programs benefiting registered workers.
The Director Labour highlighted ongoing efforts for safeguarding labour rights, enforcing labour laws, and improving working conditions across various sectors. The Workers Children Education Board also briefed the meeting on progress regarding quality education, scholarships, and modern learning facilities for labourers’ children.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and socio-economic uplift of the labour community. He emphasized the need to strengthen coordination among all relevant institutions to ensure effective delivery of welfare initiatives.
The Minister directed that a comprehensive and result-oriented strategy be adopted to translate ongoing welfare programs into tangible outcomes. He further instructed that meetings with ILO and GIZ representatives be held next week to explore collaborative efforts for improving labour welfare and workplace standards.
Concluding the meeting, the Minister directed all departments to prepare detailed progress reports on their current projects and future targets for presentation in the next review session, ensuring integrated policy planning for the benefit of the working class.
