A meeting of the Legislative Committee was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam to deliberate on a number of important legislative proposals aimed at strengthening the province’s legal and criminal justice framework.
The committee reviewed and discussed the Code of Criminal Procedure (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Witness Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2026, The Anti-Terrorism (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The meeting also took up the agenda item regarding the vetting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Immovable Property Tax Act, 2026, and discussed various legal and administrative aspects of the proposed legislation.
During the meeting, committee members and senior officials exchanged views on the proposed amendments and reforms, focusing on enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement, prosecution mechanisms, witness protection measures and counter-terrorism efforts, while also improving the province’s taxation and legal governance framework.
Speaking on the occasion, Law Minister Aftab Alam underscored the importance of modernizing laws in accordance with contemporary requirements and ensuring that legislation serves the public interest through efficient and transparent governance.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Akhtar Saeed Turk, Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, and other relevant officials.
The committee decided to continue consultations on the proposed bills and incorporate recommendations from stakeholders before the legislation is finalized and presented for further consideration.
