The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert following a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) that another westerly weather system is likely to affect most parts of the province from Sunday, January 25 to Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
According to PMD, rain, wind-thunderstorms and snowfall (including heavy snowfall at places) are expected in upper districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galliyat, Malakand, Buner and Bajaur, while widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, Kurram, Khyber, Waziristan and adjoining districts.
Possible impacts include road closures, slippery conditions, landslides, avalanches in hilly areas, fog in plains after the system, and a significant drop in daytime temperatures.
Deputy Commissioners and relevant departments have been directed to adopt precautionary and response measures.
According to PDMA, citizens may contact Emergency Operations Center via toll-free helpline 1700, which remains active round the clock.
