Special Assistant Iftikhar Ullah Jan, IG Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak Visit Under-Construction Jails in Swabi

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Iftikhar Ullah Jan, along with Inspector General Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak, paid a detailed visit to the under-construction District Jail and Sub Jail in Swabi on Monday.

Senior officials of the Prisons Department, concerned officers, engineers, and representatives of the construction firms were also present during the visit.

The Special Assistant reviewed the progress of ongoing projects, construction quality, security arrangements, basic facilities, residential barracks for inmates, medical facilities, security systems, water, electricity and other essential infrastructure. He directed the authorities concerned to ensure timely completion of the projects while maintaining high construction standards and transparency.

Speaking on the occasion, Iftikhar Ullah Jan said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is pursuing its vision of transforming jails into modern correctional centers where inmates will be provided a secure environment along with quality facilities for education, vocational training, health and rehabilitation.

He added that the construction of the new jail will not only reduce the burden on existing jails but also provide inmates with better facilities and more opportunities for reform and training.

IG Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak briefed the Special Assistant on the progress of the projects, stating that construction work is proceeding as per prescribed standards and government directives. He said all available resources are being utilized to ensure timely completion.

The Special Assistant reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the process of reforms in the Prisons Department will be further accelerated to make the province’s jail system modern, secure, transparent and aligned with correctional requirements.
