Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar (SBBWUP) organized an awareness seminar on “NFC Share and Challenges Faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” on Monday December 01, 2025. The event brought together distinguished academics and policy experts to deliberate on the pressing issues surrounding the National Finance Commission (NFC) and its implications for the province. The event witnessed remarkable participation from faculty members and students of University and 12 affiliated colleges of SBBWUP.
The Keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, Chairman, Department of International Relations, University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Zilakat Malik, Department of Economics, University of Peshawar and Dr. Sumaira Gul, Department of Political Science, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar.
The speakers emphasized the importance of equitable distribution of financial resources under the NFC Award. Prof. Dr. Soherwordi highlighted the historical context of the NFC and its role in strengthening federal-provincial relations. Prof. Dr. Zilakat Malik discussed the economic challenges faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including resource allocation and fiscal sustainability. Dr. Sumaira Gul highlighted political dimensions of the NFC debate, stressing the need for inclusive policymaking to address provincial concerns.
The seminar provided students and faculty with valuable insights into the complexities of fiscal federalism in Pakistan. It underscored the necessity of informed dialogue and collaborative efforts to ensure that provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receive a fair share in national financial planning. The session concluded with the vote of thanks given by Dr Zarmina Baloch, Assistant Professor Department of Political Science, SBBWUP.
