Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has said that Chief Minister has pursued every possible constitutional, legal and democratic path to meet with Imran Khan. An application was also filed with Islamabad High Court for the meeting where the court issued orders to ensure Chief Minister’s meeting but even the court orders were not implemented and elected Chief Minister of the province was prevented from meeting Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.
He further said that purpose of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi writing a letter to the CM of Punjab was solely to bring all facts on record, because we believe in the supremacy of democracy, the Constitution and rule of law. That is why all constitutional and legal routes are being pursued.
Shafi Jan clarified that if despite this, the Chief Minister is still not allowed to meet Imran Khan we will take the matter to the public. He said various protest options are under consideration and party leadership will decide after consultations.
We welcomed the Prime Minister’s phone call to Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and his goodwill statement in Chitral. However, Shehbaz Sharif himself is a powerless Prime Minister. Criticizing the Punjab government and Uzma Bukhari, Shafi Jan said that “It is Punjab’s misfortune that Maryam Nawaz and her friends are ruling over the province.”
