The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the status of Women is playing a vital role in protecting women’s rights, promoting gender equality and effectively implementing policies related to women in government institutions across the province. According to the spokesperson, the main objective of the commission is to monitor incidents of discrimination, violence or injustice against women in the province and provide timely recommendations and guidance to the relevant institutions to ensure women’s rights.
Chairperson of the commission, Dr. Sumera Shams, said that the The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the status of Women is an independent institution that works on policy-level reforms, recommendations and institutional accountability to solve women’s problems. It monitors the performance of all government institutions across the province through an online monitoring system to ensure effective implementation of laws and government policies related to the protection of women’s rights.
Dr. Sumera Shams added that the commission is taking steps to eliminate gender-based discrimination, prevent violence against women, and promote women’s participation in the decision-making process by staying in touch with various departments and institutions. She said that protecting women’s rights is not possible through legislation alone, but for this, positive change in social attitudes and institutional transparency are necessary.
The Chairperson, while shedding light on her future vision, said that the commission will make the digital monitoring system more effective across the province so that all cases, complaints and records of government performance related to women’s rights are automatically saved and analyzable.
Dr. Sumera Shams said that our goal is to create a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where women have opportunities to live with equality, security and dignity. The commission will continue to carry out its responsibilities with transparency, impartiality and integrity so that women’s rights can be protected.
