TOUGH ROAD SAFETY PUSH—TOP OFFICIALS VOW TO ENFORCE STRICT MEASURES ON INDUS HIGHWAY

In compliance with the directives from the Peshawar High Court, a high-level meeting chaired by the Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah decided to implement stringent safety and traffic management measures along the Indus Highway to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
The meeting, held at the Commissioner’s office Kohat, brought together Regional Police Officer Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat and officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA), NESPAK, the Provincial Transport Authority and commissioners, RPOs, and deputy commissioners from Peshawar, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan Divisions via video link.
The participants reviewed progress on the court’s directives and finalized a coordinated action plan. The court has appointed Commissioner Kohat as the focal person to oversee traffic regulation, load management and regular progress reporting to the judiciary.
It was decided that the police will fully cooperate with the Commissioners office in enforcing traffic laws, patrolling and regulatory control. The NHA will immediately install weigh stations at all entry points of the Indus Highway to prevent overloaded vehicles from entering.
Overloaded vehicles will face heavy fines, unloading requirements and cancellation of route permits and driving licenses. The meeting also recommended the immediate deployment of Motorway Police and directed drivers to strictly avoid driving in the wrong direction. Furthermore, the NHA was directed to accelerate the repair and maintenance work to improve the road’s condition and reduce accident risks.
Commissioner Shah reaffirmed that ensuring safe travel and protecting lives and property on the Indus Highway is the administration’s top priority. “Implementation of the High Court’s directives is a government commitment and all relevant institutions will work in close coordination,” he concluded.
