KP Food Authority Conducts Major Raids in Peshawar; Butcher Arrested for Selling Meat of Underage Animals, Hundreds of Kilos of Adulterated Spices Seized

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority carried out major operations in the provincial capital, seizing meat of underage animals and hundreds of kilograms of adulterated and harmful spices, the authority’s spokesperson said, yesterday.

According to details, acting on a tip-off early in the morning, a Food Safety team conducted a surprise raid on a butcher shop in Chargano Chowk, Peshawar. During the inspection, the team recovered meat of underage animals. The butcher was immediately taken into custody, and an FIR was registered against him. Further legal proceedings have been initiated.
The spokesperson added that in another operation, the Food Safety team raided a spice production unit, where over 255 kilograms of adulterated spices were recovered. The unit was found using bran, husk, low-quality colors and other harmful substances. All adulterated materials were confiscated, and legal action under the Food Safety Act has been started against the factory owner.
Director General KP Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, lauded the performance of the Food Safety teams and reiterated that strict and indiscriminate action will continue against those involved in food adulteration. He said the authority would not tolerate any compromise on public health.
