WSSCM Represents Pakistan at Global Water Congress in Germany

The Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) proudly represented Pakistan at the 6th Global Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) Congress held in Bonn, Germany Organized by the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) under UN-Habitat, the event brought together over 550 delegates from 70 countries to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing in the global water and sanitation sector.
The WSSCM delegation led by Chairman Board of Directors Engr. Adil Nawaz, Chief Executive Officer Shahid Khan, and Senior Manager Planning and Projects Imran Zaman actively participated in plenary sessions, technical discussions, and field visits, showcasing Pakistan’s achievements in water utility reforms and innovation.
During the congress, WSSCM presented its successful implementation of the Europe Union WOP Phase I Project, highlighting key milestones such as reducing non-revenue water (NRW) from 52% to 39%, introducing SCADA based monitoring for six tube wells, improving revenue collection by 11% and training over 100 staff members in operations, billing, and customer services. A poster titled “Transforming Utility Performance in Pakistan” was also displayed, drawing attention to WSSCM’s strides in digitalization, customer engagement and urban resilience.
The four day event, themed “Solidarity in Action: Stronger Utilities for Thriving Cities,” emphasized collaboration, climate resilience, and the human right to water and sanitation. WSSCM delegates also participated in a technical visit to the Salierweg Wastewater Treatment Plant, gaining valuable insights into sustainable wastewater management and automation systems relevant to Mardan’s future infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Board of Directors Engineer Adil Nawaz and CEO Shahid Khan stated that participation in the global congress “reaffirms our commitment to sustainable water management, digital transformation, and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).”
The WSSCM delegation returned with valuable learnings and potential collaboration opportunities for the upcoming EU-WOP Phase II Project, aiming to further strengthen service delivery, climate resilience, and international partnerships.
The company expressed gratitude to GWOPA, UN-Habitat, Budapest Waterworks, and the European Union for their continued technical and financial support in enhancing Pakistan’s urban water services.
