KP Food Authority Discards Large Quantity of Substandard Different Items

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority destroyed substandard and dangerous food items in Lower Dir, of seized food products, yesterday.
According to the spokesperson, the food safety team disposed of hundreds of liters of counterfeit beverages at a dumping area during the operation. In addition, 600 packets of expired spices and 80 packets of biscuits were also destroyed.
The spokesperson further said that more than 200 packets of candies and 120 packets of counterfeit kheer mix were disposed of. The team also destroyed 137 kilograms of China salt and 50 kilograms of spoiled bakery items at the dumping ground.
During the operation, Food Authority also recovered and destroyed 65 kilograms of newspapers being used for food packing, which is prohibited for food contact due to health risks. Moreover, 500 bundles of mislabeled Chips were also disposed of.
The authority also destroyed 14 packets of ketchup, 3 kilograms of non-food grade colour, and five cans of oil and ghee. A large quantity of spoiled pickles and tea leaves was also discarded.
Director General Kashif Iqbal Jilani said that strict action against those involved in the business of substandard and hazardous food items would continue without discrimination.
He added that the authority is committed to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food for the public across the province.
