CM’s aide on Information Shafi Jan’s message on World Press Freedom Day

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, in his message on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May,has said that free and responsible journalism forms the foundation of any democratic society and plays a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and public awareness.
He emphasized that access to reliable information, along with the role of media in fostering dialogue and mutual trust, is of paramount importance for peace, economic stability, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.
Shafi Jan noted that in the present era, while the speed of information dissemination has increased significantly, challenges such as fake news, propaganda and the misuse of artificial intelligence are also emerging, which undermine public trust.
He also expressed concern over the growing pressures on press freedom worldwide. He further stated that the threats and economic hardships faced by journalists require urgent attention.
The Special Assistant reaffirmed that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains committed to safeguard press freedom, ensuring the protection of journalists, and promoting their professional rights, and is taking all possible steps in this regard.
He also paid tribute to journalists who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, stating that their services and sacrifices will always be remembered with respect and honor.
