Arif Ahmadzai, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mines and Mineral, has stated that mining projects in District Kurram should be pushed forward in accordance with prevailing laws for the national economy, while keeping the interests and consultation of the local populace at the forefront, so that new employment opportunities can be generated in the region.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting chaired by him yesterday at Civil Secretariat II, Warsak Road, Peshawar. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Mines and Mineral Department, Director General of Mines and Mineral, Additional Secretaries, Director JV Cell, Director Licensing (South), Assistant Director Technical, officials from District Kurram, and other relevant officers.
During the meeting, a detailed briefing was given regarding the soapstone deposits in District Kurram (Parachinar) and the projects operating under Joint Ventures (JVs), alongside a comprehensive review of their performance. The meeting also deliberated upon the issues and obstacles faced at the local level during mining activities. The Provincial Minister issued directives to address the reservations of the local population and to make the mining process transparent and expedited.
