Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Science Technology and Information Technology Shafi Jan has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths of newborn babies in a fire at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad.
In a statement issued here, the provincial minister extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved parents and families, saying that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government stands with the affected families in this hour of grief.
Shafi Jan said that the loss of innocent lives was an extremely tragic and heart-breaking incident. He stressed that hospitals must have effective arrangements for firefighting, emergency evacuation of patients and other essential safety measures at all times.
Expressing serious concern over the lack of basic firefighting and emergency evacuation facilities at PIMS Hospital, he said that negligence in safety arrangements at such a major public-sector hospital was highly regrettable.
The provincial Information Minister said, “What could be a greater incompetence and failure than a government that cannot even properly run two major hospitals in Islamabad? The incompetence, failure and insensitivity of the federal government have now become its hallmark.”
Shafi Jan said the tragic incident at PIMS Hospital had exposed the federal government’s criminal negligence. He called for accountability over the serious negligence and criminal lapse, demanding that those responsible be identified and strict action be taken against them.
He emphasized that negligence in protecting precious human lives could not be tolerated under any circumstances.
