In a major breakthrough under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs, recovering 204 kilograms of hashish which is the department’s largest anti-narcotics operation of the year.
The successful operation was carried out by the Excise Police Station, Peshawar Region, as part of the provincial government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under the directives of Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan.
According to details received from the department, the Excise team intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number BUV-956 (Islamabad) during a targeted operation on Ring Road, Peshawar. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 5.1 maunds (204,000 grams/204 kilograms) of hashish, which was being smuggled.
The accused, Wahid Shah, son of Sabit Shah and a resident of Mashokhel, was arrested on the spot. A case has been registered at Excise Police Station Peshawar, while further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
Commending the performance of the Excise team, Provincial Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan said that drug traffickers are enemies of society and will continue to face indiscriminate action under the law. He reiterated that protecting the younger generation from the menace of narcotics remains one of the provincial government’s highest priorities and affirmed that no leniency would be shown to anyone involved in drug trafficking or the illicit narcotics trade.
