Crackdown Against Food Adulteration Intensified Across KP on Special Assistant’s Directives

On the directives of the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority has intensified its province-wide crackdown against food adulteration and the sale of unsafe food. During coordinated operations across multiple districts, Food Safety teams confiscated and destroyed large quantities of adulterated and hazardous food items, while legal proceedings and heavy fines were imposed on violators.
According to the spokesperson of the Food Authority, the Food Safety team in Mardan inspected several milk shops and destroyed around 200 litres of adulterated milk after laboratory tests confirmed contamination. Heavy fines were imposed on the violators, while improvement notices were issued to several food businesses.
In Peshawar, the Food Safety team apprehended the alleged ringleader of a network involved in the production of substandard beverages. During the raid, approximately 300 litres of unsafe drinks were seized, and further legal proceedings have been initiated under the KP Food Safety & Halal Food Authority Act.
In Swat, Food Safety officials conducted inspections at the Lindakay Check Post and other locations, where milk tankers and milk samples were tested. As a result, 500 litres of substandard milk were destroyed, and legal action was taken against those responsible.
Similarly, in Abbottabad, Food Safety teams intercepted vehicles at entry points to the city and destroyed 600 litres of adulterated milk and 150 kilograms of diseased chicken found unfit for human consumption. Legal action has also been initiated against the offenders.
In Bannu, the Food Safety team, in coordination with the district administration and the Livestock Department, inspected milk tankers entering the district. Laboratory analysis confirmed adulteration in one tanker, leading to the destruction of 500 litres of unsafe milk and the initiation of legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, acting on confidential information, the Food Safety team in Malakand intercepted a vehicle at the Sakhakot Check Post and recovered 200 kilograms of substandard meat along with substandard ice cream. The seized food items were destroyed on the spot, while heavy fines were imposed on those responsible.
Commending the successful operations, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan said that individuals involved in endangering public health would not be shown any leniency. He reaffirmed that indiscriminate action against food adulteration, substandard food products and those violating food safety laws would continue across the province.
Israr further stated that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains fully committed to ensuring the provision of safe, hygienic and halal food to the public and is utilizing all available resources to strengthen food safety enforcement throughout the province.
