Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, on Wednesday said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is undertaking effective and result-oriented measures to provide affordable, quality, and secure housing facilities to the people across the province.
Addressing a joint press conference alongside Provincial Minister for Housing Dr. Amjad Ali, he said that the provincial government, under the vision of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, has successfully delivered key housing projects aimed at improving living standards and expanding access to planned residential infrastructure.
He informed that over the past 12 years, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has completed seven major housing schemes at a cumulative cost of Rs34 billion. These projects, spread over 9,497 kanals of land, have delivered 10,477 housing units, including plots and flats, ensuring provision of affordable and well-planned residential options to citizens.
Shafi Jan further stated that work is currently in progress on seven additional large-scale housing projects with an estimated cost of Rs31 billion. Upon completion, these schemes will provide 38,784 residential units over an area of 30,447 kanals, significantly enhancing housing facilities in the province.
Highlighting pro-poor initiatives, he said the government has launched the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme,” under which interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5 million are being extended to eligible beneficiaries for construction and expansion of houses. He added that funds have already been disbursed to 114 successful applicants through a transparent balloting process, while work on the second phase of the scheme has also been initiated.
He also announced that the PC-I of the flagship New Peshawar Valley project has been approved. Spanning over 106,000 kanals, the mega housing initiative is expected to become a modern, integrated urban development. Progress is also underway on other key projects including Jarma Township, Bani Gul City Bannu, Hangu Township, Dangram Housing Scheme Swat, and Mega City Nowshera.
The Special Assistant noted that all housing-related services have been digitized and integrated with the Dastak App to ensure transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for the public. He added that the Housing Authority has made significant progress over the past four months in development, administrative, and legal domains.
To promote transparency, the E-PADs system has been implemented, while revised Land Sharing Regulations 2025 have also been approved. Additionally, a Housing Foundation has been established to facilitate provision of residential facilities to government employees. So far, around 96,000 employees have registered, with 75,000 already issued digital cards.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Shafi Jan said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the provincial government remains dedicated to ensuring affordable, quality, and secure housing for all segments of society.
During the press conference Provincial Minister for Housing, Dr. Amjad Ali, said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Department has achieved significant milestones in meeting its targets, driven by institutional reforms and digital transformation.
The minister stated that the department has adopted a cashless economy policy, and all its services have been fully digitalized and made accessible through the Dastak App. The Secretary Housing and Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority were also present on the occasion.
The briefing highlighted that multiple housing projects are currently underway under the supervision of the KP Housing Authority. These include the Hangu Township project, spread over 8,362 kanal with 10,162 plots at a cost of Rs14.99 billion; the Dangram Housing Scheme in Swat, covering 501 kanal with 682 plots costing Rs2.93 billion; and the Warsak One project in Peshawar, comprising 160 flats over 5.5 kanal at a cost of Rs2.15 billion.
Other ongoing projects include the Jarma Housing Scheme in Kohat, spanning 300 kanal with 463 plots costing Rs563.27 million, and the Bannu Housing Scheme, covering 11,029 kanal with 7,817 plots at a cost of Rs969 million.
The briefing further noted that over the past 12 years, several major housing projects have been completed. These include high-rise flats in Hayatabad, Peshawar, comprising 144 units over 28 kanal at a cost of Rs1.72 billion; the Jalozai Housing Scheme in Nowshera, covering 8,905 kanal with 9,477 plots at a cost of Rs14.07 billion; and Civil Quarters Phase-I, consisting of 54 flats, completed at a cost of Rs728.597 million.
Additionally, Civil Quarters Phase-II, with 96 flats over 6.9 kanal costing Rs860 million, and a housing project in Jalozai developed, comprising 116 flats over 150 kanal at a cost of Rs330 million, have also been completed.
Other completed schemes include the Malazai Housing Scheme in Peshawar, spanning 190 kanal with 371 plots at a cost of Rs173 million, and the Havelian Township project in Abbottabad, covering 218 kanal with 219 plots at a cost of Rs145 million.
Highlighting the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme,” Dr. Amjad Ali said that cheques have so far been issued to 114 successful applicants selected through balloting.
He further stated that the Housing Department conducts construction, procurement, and consultancy services through the e-PADS system. Under the Horticulture Regulations 2025, plot owners are now required to plant trees according to the size of their plots.
The minister added that the department is strictly implementing austerity measures in line with provincial government directives. As part of these measures, the POL quota for officers has been reduced by 25 percent, while 60 percent of official vehicles have been grounded. Moreover, all official meetings are now being conducted online.
