Provincial Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan held a meeting with the newly appointed Secretary Irrigation Abdul Basit in his office in Peshawar. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the administrative affairs of the department, ongoing projects, challenges faced at the district level across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the future course of action. Minister Riaz Khan said that the Irrigation Department is a vital sector directly linked with the province’s economy, agriculture, and public welfare, and that its improvement requires a well-coordinated strategy and effective coordination. He expressed confidence that the new Secretary would utilize his professional expertise to further enhance the performance of the department. Secretary Irrigation Abdul Basit thanked the provincial minister for his trust and assured that he would utilize all available resources and administrative capabilities to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, accelerate the reform process, and make public-service initiatives more effective. Minister Riaz Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the irrigation system across the province, strengthening canal infrastructure and ensuring facilitation for farmers through joint and continued efforts. Riaz Khan added that as per the clear directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi a strict and uncompromising anti-corruption policy is being implemented across the province. Under this policy actions are being taken on the basis of zero tolerance. He emphasized that promoting transparency, accountability and merit in all government institutions is a top priority of the provincial government and any officer or official found involved in corruption will face legal action without discrimination. He further stated that safeguarding public resources is the responsibility of the provincial government, and all available means are being utilized to fulfill this obligation.
