The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority launched a widespread crackdown across Peshawar following multiple public complaints regarding poor hygiene practices at local food outlets.
During the operation, food safety teams carried out surprise inspections in Taj Abad, Faqirabad, Bacha Khan Chowk and Swati Phatak, targeting hotels, kebab shops, milk sellers, and chicken and fish points. According to the officials, several businesses were found violating basic hygiene standards, leading to the imposition of heavy fines on the offenders.
A spokesperson for the authority said that during the inspections, teams identified poor sanitation, substandard milk, unhygienic meat, and improper handling practices at various establishments. Legal action was initiated against businesses found flouting food safety regulations.
Director General KP Food Authority Wasif Saeed appreciated the efforts of the food safety teams and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting public health. He said that strict, indiscriminate action is being taken across the province against those endangering citizens’ health, adding that violators of food safety laws “will be dealt with an iron hand” and no leniency will be shown.
