KPCIP project director reviews progress on Bagh-e-Naran Park project

Project Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP), Hameed Ullah Shah, on Tuesday visited the under-construction Bagh-e-Naran Park in Hayatabad to review the progress of ongoing development work.
He was accompanied by Director Technical Engr. Mian Muhammad Shakeel and WATSAN Specialist Engr. Alamgir Afridi. During the visit, the project director carried out a detailed inspection of the site, assessing the pace and quality of construction. He also reviewed the plantation process and the selection of plant species, stressing the importance of prioritizing native and climate-resilient species suited to the local environment.
Resident Engineer Azmat Ullah Khan briefed him on the overall technical aspects of the project, highlighting key features, implementation progress, and the project’s anticipated benefits for the environment, public health, and tourism sector of the provincial capital. The project director asked the resident engineer to ensure the removal of all wild growth and non-native plant species that are ecologically unsuitable and may hinder the sustainable development of the park.
“This park will not only have immense ecological and environmental impacts but will also boost tourism, create employment opportunities for thousands of people, and help reduce the burden on the health sector,” he said.
He emphasized the need for the timely completion of the project so that the residents of Peshawar can reap its full benefits.
The Bagh-e-Naran project is envisioned as a major urban green space aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and public well-being. The project includes the plantation of approximately 18,500 plants, contributing to the development of an urban forest within the park. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the city’s ecology by enhancing air quality, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating urban heat.
“Designed as a gender-inclusive public space, the park will provide safe and accessible recreational facilities for all segments of society,” he added.
The park will include dedicated family areas, playgrounds, an urban forest, gazebos, basketball and volleyball courts, an open-air gym, a spacious car park, and other amenities. Upon completion, it is expected to benefit nearly 1.97 million residents, offering a vital ecological, social, and recreational asset for the city.
