A meeting of the Standing Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held on Thursday at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held on Thursday at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman and Member of the Provincial Assembly, Muhammad Zahir Shah Khan.
The meeting was attended by Standing Committee members and Members of the Provincial Assembly Farzana Shireen and Aiman Jalil Jan, along with the Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs, the Director General Sports, Directors of Sports, officials from the Law Department, the Advocate General’s Office, and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.
The Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs gave a detailed briefing to the Committee on the department’s performance and ongoing projects. He informed the Committee that the department is undertaking various initiatives to promote sports across the province, enhance youth welfare, and provide modern sports facilities. He stated that, in addition to the construction and development of playgrounds, sports complexes, youth centers, and other infrastructure, the department is implementing several projects aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent, engaging youth in positive activities, and empowering them.
The briefing highlighted that during the 2025–26 fiscal year, the department placed special emphasis on development projects, sports infrastructure, promotion of sports in the merged districts, youth complexes, and the Ehsaas Naujawan Program, focusing on employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and the provision of modern facilities. It also successfully organized district and inter-district sports competitions, marathons, traditional games, activities in educational institutions, and various national-level sporting events.
The Secretary for Sports reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continuing its efforts to promote sports, foster positive character development among youth, develop talent, ensure equal opportunities for women and persons with disabilities, and provide modern sports facilities. He said these initiatives would enable the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to play an effective role in national development and contribute to building a brighter future for Pakistan.
During the meeting, Standing Committee member Farzana Shireen sought clarification regarding the lack of furniture at the Directorate of Sports office in Bannu. The Secretary for Sports responded that the required furniture and other essential equipment would be provided once the building is completed.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Standing Committee Chairman Muhammad Zahir Shah Khan directed the Secretary for Sports and the relevant officials to present a comprehensive report at the next meeting on the Provincial Sports Policy, sports facilities, sports complexes, and the ongoing as well as completed development schemes in Mardan, Mingora, and Abbottabad.
