Asif Rafiq Directs Preparation of Comprehensive Plan to Beautify Peshawar and Transform It into a City of Flowers

Adviser on Local Government, Communications and Works, Asif Rafiq, has directed the officials of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to prepare a comprehensive and effective plan to enhance the beauty of Peshawar, promote a greener environment, and improve public facilities.
He directed that flower belts be established from the motorway to various entry points of the city, major roads, and other prominent locations to transform Peshawar into a city of flowers. He also proposed the installation of dancing fountains in public parks.
These directions were issued on Thursday during a detailed briefing by the Peshawar Development Authority regarding its overall performance, ongoing development projects, and future strategy.
During the briefing, officials informed the Adviser that various projects were underway to promote urban development, enhance the city’s beauty, and improve basic civic amenities. In this regard, the construction of a 1,000-bed hospital on 150 kanals of land near the Peshawar Motorway is under consideration.
Similarly, a plan to construct a four-storey extension building within the available space at Lady Reading Hospital is also under consideration. The PC-I for the project has been approved, while the PC-II has been forwarded to the Health Department.
Officials further informed the Adviser that a master plan had been prepared for the construction of the Southern Expressway and the approximately 45-kilometre-long Outer Peshawar Ring Road. In addition, a comprehensive plan is being developed to significantly enhance the beauty of Peshawar, proposing measures for the renovation of various areas and improvement of the urban environment.
Asif Rafiq directed the officials to select attractive flowers and plants suited to local climatic conditions to enhance the appearance of major roads, entry points, and public spaces. He emphasized that tree plantation, flower belts, and the improvement of public parks should be integral components of the planning process to further strengthen Peshawar’s identity and aesthetic appeal.
The Adviser also directed the Peshawar Development Authority to complete all necessary arrangements and take the required measures to make the missing link of the Ring Road, starting from Warsak Road, operational within 90 days.
He stated that completion of this connecting road could help reduce traffic congestion and ease the commuting difficulties faced by citizens.
Asif Rafiq stressed that urban development projects must prioritize public needs, smooth traffic flow, environmental improvement, and better civic amenities. He expressed the hope that these measures would contribute to making Peshawar a beautiful, green, and modern urban centre.
