Barriers to Meetings with PTI Founder Reflect Fear of Imran Khan: Shafii Jan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has said that preventing lawyers and family members from meeting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder chairman Imran Khan by federal and Punjab governments is a serious violation of Constitution, law, and democratic values.

Shafi Jan termed the move condemnable and regrettable, adding that it is clear evidence of authorities fear of Imran Khan. Shafi Jan further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi along with members of Provincial assembly had travelled to Adiala Jail to express solidarity with PTI founder Imran Khan and his sisters.

He stated that federal government, in a display of panic, erected barriers outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad and deployed a heavy police contingent.

He further stated that serious negligence had been shown regarding Imran Khan’s health due to political victimisation. lack of timely and adequate medical care adversely affected Khan’s eyesight.

He demanded that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be immediately shifted to Al-Shifa Eye Hospital and be granted unrestricted access to their personal physicians and family members.

Provincial Minister further said that every attempt to isolate Imran Khan has failed because public continues to stand firmly with him. He maintained that government, fearful of Khan’s popularity, has resorted to political revenge, but such tactics cannot diminish people’s affection and support for him.

Shafi Jan added that treatment being meted out to Imran Khan has been exposed before world. He said that Khan had been kept in solitary confinement for more than 200 days and that his sister’s last meeting with him took place in December 2025.

He further said that “incompetent group” that came to power through “Form 47” had instituted false cases against Imran Khan to safeguard its rule and had set worst examples of political victimisation. He warned that days of the current rulers were numbered.

Shafi Jan also said that similar tactics motivated by fear of Imran Khan were being employed in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. However, he said, public is now fully aware of such strategies and can see through them.

Shafi Jan concluded by saying that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secured a public mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a third time due to Imran Khan’s vision, public welfare agenda, development initiatives and effective governance. He described Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as PTI’s strongest political stronghold, adding that the party’s increasing representation in the provincial assembly in successive elections reflects the people’s unwavering trust and confidence.
