Revolutionary measures took KP government to improve power supply to industries

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken revolutionary steps to strengthen and stabilize the energy infrastructure for the development of the industrial sector and promotion of investment in the province. A high-level working group has been established to resolve the electricity problems faced by industrial zones and promote investment, which consists of elected public representatives of the province, senior government officers and representatives of industrial consumers. The working group will formulate feasible and sustainable proposals to ensure uninterrupted power supply in industrial areas.
In this regard, an important meeting of the working group and key stakeholders associated with the energy sector in the province was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Energy & Power Nisar Ahmed. The meeting was attended by Syed Zahir Shah, Chief Executive of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid System Company KPT&GSC, established by the provincial government to transmit electricity in the province, Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Nawar ul Haq, General Manager Peshawar Electric Supply Company PESCO Habib-ur-Rehman, Chief Executive Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO), Chief Executive Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC), and representatives of the Implementation and Regulatory Affairs Department (MIRAD).
Meanwhile, during the meeting, various proposals were discussed in detail to ensure the future load demand, including power infrastructure in industrial zones of the province, power demand, grid issues and the national Transmission System Expansion Plan (TSEP).
Moreover, the meeting also discussed in detail the formal transfer of transmission line assets from PEDO to KPT&GSC, in which the tripartite agreement to control the transfer of assets between the respective distribution companies (DISCOs) was reviewed and it was decided that a roadmap would be formulated soon to finalize the agreement, which would be helpful for sustainable distribution of power and modern energy infrastructure for the development of the industrial sector in the future.
At this juncture, the Secretary Energy & Power Nisar Ahmed emphasized that strengthening and stabilizing the basic energy infrastructure for the development of the industrial sector is the top priority of the current provincial government, for which strong communication and consensus among all stakeholders is very important. He assured that the Department of Energy and Electricity and the Department of Industries and Crafts will take vigorous steps to raise their voices at high-level forums.
