Inter-departmental Sports Week has begun at Hazara University, Mansehra. Teams comprising students from different academic departments of the university are participating in the week-long sports week. Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand formally inaugurated the sports week. Speaking on the occasion, he said that sports play an important role in the physical and mental development of students and positive activities teach the youth discipline, teamwork and leadership skills. He said that increasing sports facilities for the youth is the top priority of the provincial government and for this purpose, sports grounds are being constructed in every tehsil. Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, while giving good news to the youth, said that the Thakra Stadium in Mansehra is being upgraded and converted into a complete sports complex where all the modern facilities for various sports will be available for the youth. He said that the youth policy is being re-formulated to empower the youth, for which youth from all the universities of the province will be invited so that in the light of their opinions and suggestions, a youth policy can be formulated keeping in mind these needs and desires. Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand announced a cash prize of Rs 500,000 for the players participating in the university’s sports week and Rs 100,000 for the Hazara Daffodils, the winning team of the Zalmay Women’s Cricket League recently held in Peshawar. He said that all the grounds, arenas and other facilities available in the province under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Support Department are available to the youth of Hazara University and they can benefit from them at all times. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikramullah Khan also graced the ceremony on this occasion. He welcomed the provincial advisor on his arrival at the university. The Vice Chancellor paid tribute to the Director of Sports of the university, Syed Khalid Jalal Shah, his team and other organizers for organizing the Sports Week. Earlier, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand met with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ikramullah Khan in his office and discussed matters of mutual interest. Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand assured the Vice Chancellor of his full cooperation in meeting the sports and other needs of the university on a priority basis. Deans of the university, heads of academic departments and relevant administrative officers were present on the occasion.
